What's Happenin' Peeps?!!!, I'm Gary
Husband, Father, Musician, Singer, Mastering Engineer, ARMY and POLICE Veteran, Gamer, Shooter, Scrappy and absolutely a nerd!!
I've been married for 25 years to Nyshaunte, the beautiful lady pictured to the left of me. We have two daughters 21 and 17 respectively. Not only is she an incredible mom, if it were not for her ongoing support and belief in me, Scrappy Nerd Productions LLC would not exist! In fact, it was she that gave me the name for my business.
I gained my scrappy, tenacious, attitude in the neighborhood called, "The Goose" in New Orleans East. If you didn't know how to fight you were going to get your lunch money, bike, shoes, candy and eventually your life taken.
Despite this harsh reality, I was also a "nerd" when it came to math, science, history, video games, comic books, animation, James Bond (007), Looney Tunes, The Three Stooges, Scooby Doo, Speed Racer, Ultra Man, Transformers, Thunder Cats, Fists of the North Star, Gundam, Voltron, Kung Fu Movies (Seven Deadly Venoms), Bruce Lee (Enter the Dragon), Anything about Ninjas, jet engines, supercars, Formula One, Grand Touring, Nascar, automotive engineering, acoustics, physics, military weapons, military history, Espionage, Martial Arts, Horror Movies, Space Travel, Time Travel, art and music.
I've always been interested/fascinated with car engines and how they work. Unfortunately my family prohibited me from learning about car engines due to my dad's death from working on one. His death happened eight months before I was born.
My early elementary curiosity led me to explore the MS-DOS Operating System back when dinosaurs roamed the internet. I just wanted to learn how to program video games. Well, after typing line after line after line of text commands, I realized that it was too monotonous for me. This was the time of the Atari 2600 and Tandy 1000.
Due to my love for James Bond (007) I joined the US Army right out of High School to get into the field of Military Intelligence. Because of my ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) score, all of the military careers were open to me except the legal field.
I chose to become an intelligence analyst. The crazy part is that I had to finish Basic Combat Training and then travel to a completely different post for Army Intelligence School. I passed the school on the first try.
While in Asia, I completed a couple real world missions along with starting an acapella performing group called "TruVibe". We were five guys who would practice singing and harmonizing almost everyday of the week just so we could breakout into a song anytime we wanted to show off our chops.
TruVibe performed at a couple of shows sponsored by the USO (United Service Organization). I remember collaborating with members of the Airforce who were instrumental players. It was a great time.
One of the highlights of TruVibe's accomplishments was placing 5th in a Sony Sponsored Talent Show at Osan Airbase, South Korea, 1993.
Finally, after returning home from Asia, I enrolled into the University of New Orleans to study Computer Science. After the first semester I decided to take a Non-Music Major's Voice class. That one decision changed my life forever.
With the help of my voice instructor I auditioned for the Music Department and got in!! What was amazing about my acceptance is that I had no formal training in music theory nor musicianship. As a matter of fact, I could not read nor write music when I was accepted into the College of Music. When the Voice Chair heard me sing, she said, "Your voice is a gift from God!" Sing for us and we'll teach you the rest.
Fast forward, thirty years later, I've been a high school music teacher, private school music teacher, Music Director, Founding Member of Chronic Soul and Delirium Residue Bands, started GFUNK RECORDS LLC and KDOM (Kingdom) RECORDS LLC both defunct, written several songs and tons of partial song ideas, learned proficiency on both the piano and guitar, performed professional opera as a Bass-Baritone Singer, Busked on the streets of New Orleans, Performed as a Jazz Vocalist with the New Orleans Night Crawlers Combo, Released an EP entitled Fruity, worked as a law enforcement agent for the State of Louisiana, worked as an Optician for America's Best Eyeglasses and Contacts, Suffered from Imposter Syndrome, Instructed fellow agents in the safe and accurate firing of their service weapons to keep their jobs and protect the public, released the singles "Next 2 Me" and "One and Only", Finished four years of emotional therapy to aid me in the pursuit of my ultimate goal --- financial freedom.
That scrappy, nerdy, tenacious, thirst for knowledge is what brings you and I to this junction. I'm here to fight for you and your creative right to produce and deliver competitive audio products to your consumers.
I'm looking forward to building a genuine friendship with you to aid you on your journey to musical excellence. Please navigate to the services section to book a call with me. I can't wait to hear from you.
